About

RAINTOWN PRESS
Established in 2010 by Cory Freeman, RainTown Press is Portland, Oregon’s first and only independent press dedicated to publishing literature for middle grade and young adults. Portland serves as the perfect backdrop for a press dedicated to young readers—the diversity of culture, literature, and landscape here encourages us to be strong, autonomous, and even outright rebellious. There is a spirit of independent thinking and innovation paired with perseverance and tenacity among the people of the Northwest. Through the drudgery and gray skies, we not only survive, we thrive. We view the wet days we endure as being custom-made for reading a good book—or in our case, making one. To that end, we say, “Close the umbrella, and LET IT DRIZZLE.”

RAINTOWN ORIGINALS
We consider our RainTown Originals to be the classics of tomorrow. Each title we choose tells a compelling story that engages intellect, emotion, and imagination. We are fiercely unapologetic for the choices we make when selecting which authors to promote. Their undying passion for their work is inspired by and dedicated to the independent young readers we make our books for. We are confident that opening a RainTown Original will be like hanging out with a close friend and will provide an experience our readers will want to repeat over, and over, and over again. So close the umbrella. Enjoy. And let it drizzle.

TEACHING CLASSICS
RainTown Teaching Classics is our line of classic titles designed to partner with teachers to promote critical thinking in middle grade and high school students. RainTown Teaching Classics offer student readers an intimate experience with the use of Print-On-Demand technology, which allows teachers to personalize each title with their own, class-specific lesson plans, lectures, and essays. Each RainTown Teaching Classic contains historical background, an author biography, character and vocabulary lists, reader response questions, and other material specific to each title. The Teaching Classics also come with a monthly newsletter for teachers. Altogether, this additional content offers a platform for thoughtful dialogue on timely and relevant issues.
